Description

Paperbark Lodge centres on a former farmhouse on the Tala Private Game Reserve, with its large fireplace, mahogany floors and polished verandas restored. The lodge combines a number of ideas and influences, reflected in the décor that merges dramatic wildlife paintings and highback chairs with shale walls and ethnic statuettes. The lodge extends around an attractive garden lined with gravel pathways and a cascading water-feature. Paperbark has a total of 17 rooms, with a romantic rondavel overlooking the rock-pool for honeymooners. The sumptuous premier suite features a sitting room, spacious bathroom with ball-and-claw tub and four-poster bed. Paperbark’s facilities include two sitting rooms, a dining room, conference facilities and a short drive to the expansive rock pools.

Directions

From Durban N3 to Pietermaritzburg take the Camperdown/Umbumbulu turnoff 3km’s further at T-junction turn left towards Umbumbulu on the R603 after 10km’s you cross the Mlazi River bridge, ignore the Tala Valley sign and continue 3km’s until you see the Tala Private Game Reserve sign and thatched entrance on the left. From Pietermaritzburg N3 to Durban take Richmond/Umbumbulu/Umlaas Rd R603 turnoff follow road back over the freeway and continue straight through junction pass Shell garage on the left after 10km’s you cross the Mlazi River bridge ignore Tala Valley sign and continue 3km’s until you see the Tala Private Game Reserve sign and thatched entrance on the left.
