Description

After settling in to the accommodation.  Luxury ensuite tents on raised wooden decks- guests are able to map out their own programme with their guide. Our camps, with only 4 tents in our River Camp and 8 in our Forest Camp, result in an exclusive and personalised experience. A mixture of game drives, river cruises and guided walks will enthrall those with a desire to fill the day, whilst hammocks in the trees or a fishing line dangling in the water will suit those who wish to take it easy. For the really energetic canoeing, deep-sea fishing, clay-pigeon shooting and coastal cruises can all be provided at extremely reasonable rates. But what makes this a truly memorable experience is the unequalled splendour of the vistas as one views game against the magnificent backdrop of pristine coastal forest and the sea a few kilometres away. Completing the "under canvas" experience are the tranquil evenings around the campfire listening to the lapping waters in the river and the night calls of the bush while feasting on our superb cuisine. In true bush camp tradition all the distractions are removed as the absence of electricity ensures the experience is not spoilt by the sounds of modern society. Professional guides and an abundance of game and birds including rhino and giraffe will leave you saying "Sibuya" we will return.

The quintessential African safari experience.

Sibuya has more navigable river than any other game reserve in South Africa. The birdlife is consequently prolific: there are nearly 400 different species. The breathtakingly beautiful reserve is sanctuary to an abundance of diverse wildlife from elephants to otters, and almost everything in between, including the Big Five. Sibuya offers luxury tented accommodation in the Eastern Cape and prides itself on superb cuisine.

Sibuya's reception is in the holiday village of Kenton-on-Sea in the Eastern Cape Province, about 140 kms (80 miles) equidistant from Port Elizabeth and East London. The unique experience starts immediately with a half-hour boat transfer to River or Forest Camp. Turtles, dolphins and whales might be seen near the river mouth. Both camps nestle in riverine forest and have been constructed in an environmentally conscious manner. Guests are hosted and guided by a team of experienced professionals.

Accommodation

 River Camp

The smaller, more intimate River Camp has four tents, ideal for families with children, or for sole-use specialist groups. The luxury tents measure 25 square meters (300 square feet), are adjoined by an en-suite bathroom and accommodate two adults sharing in top-of-the-range king or twin beds, and sits under an all-weather roof. Decks offer views of the river or forest. Cot or camp beds are available for children sharing with adults.

Part of the purpose of a getaway is to relax!  River Camp offers ample opportunity for guests to do this, and few pastimes can be more soporific than lying on a hammock with a book, listening to the birds in the trees.

Sibuya’s creative chef and his capable team take great pride in the preparation and presentation of the cuisine, which has attracted some rave reviews!   The dining experience has to be tried to be believed.   Good South African wines are served with the meals.

Forest Camp

Perfectly situated on the banks of the Kariega River, but tucked unobtrusively away into the vegetation. Adopting a low impact model, Forest Camp’s accommodation is built on expansive, slightly raised wooden decks and has long wooden walkways through pristine thicket  which allow elderly and disabled guests to move around with ease. Sibuya offers true luxury tented accommodation: each tent measures 40 square meters (450 square feet), is adjoined by a large en-suite bathroom, accommodates two adults sharing in top-of-the-range king or twin beds, and sits under an all-weather roof. Wide decks offer views of the river or forest. Cot or camp beds are available for children sharing with adults.

No destination can succeed without a loyal and dedicated staff.
At Sibuya, the camp and hospitality staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and will go out of their way to ensure a memorable stay for their guests.   Sibuya’s guides include some of the most experienced in the business.   Their love of the environment and their enthusiasm for their work is infectious, and guests will find them to be not only knowledgeable guides but also gracious hosts.
