Description

Gwalagwala is a small, intimate game lodge

The camp consists of seven en-suite tents of which one is a super luxurious tent with a his and hers basin, bath, outdoor shower and a lounge. Each tent is built on a wooden platform raised in the trees on sturdy stilts. The game lodge is fully electrified & all tents have their own en suite bathroom & private deck. You have a choice of twin or queen sized beds. All bedrooms are fully insect proofed.

The tents are all equipped with fans for the warm summer days & heaters & electric blankets for those chilly winter nights so that at all times you enjoy a comfortable temperature in your room. We also provide tea/coffee facilities, hair dryer, international plug & fridge in each unit to add to your comfort.

During November 2008 an agreement between Kapama and Gwalagwala was concluded whereby Kapama would acquire the property and business of Gwalagwala. The current owners, Dorian and Ann Harcourd-Boldwin wish to retire after a long period where they have established this well known brand in the industry, associated with warm personal attention on, arguably, one of the best locations in Africa.

The fence between Kapama and Gwalagwala which stretches for 3.5 km along Kapama's southern boundary has been removed and the Gwalagwala property will be incorporated into Kapama Private Game Reserve. The property is in excess of 435 ha and includes 2.5 km of Klaserie river frontage. The Klaserie River is a perennial river which provides water to the many game species within the Kapama Reserve. The Klaserie River and immediate surrounding vegetation provides the ideal habitat for leopard, hippo and crocodile on the reserve. Being part of the bigger world renowned Kapama Private Game Reserve ads a total new dimension to Gwalagwala and the fact that another fence is taken out within this already large area is of great environmental benefit to the animals and the ecosystem for the area.

This means that Gwalagwala is now located within one of the biggest big five reserves in the country.
